At The Reading Bridge our goal is simple: Empowering young readers and building confidence. We know first-hand that reading skills can be built, confidence grows alongside skills, and that reading is not “just schoolwork,” but a gateway to lifelong opportunity.
The Reading Bridge offers individualized teaching sessions both online an in person to assist students who need additional support with reading focusing on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Program participants strengthen reading skills, experience an increase in self-esteem, and create strong foundations for academic success now and job success later in life.
For elementary aged students, we provide online and in-person tutoring intervention, coaching, and enrichment through school and district partnerships and through direct services to families needing student support to bridge the literacy gap to increase student confidence. Our twelve-week long intensive program meets four days each week for 3o minutes each session to help create and strengthen new neural pathways through high frequency and repetition.
For Pre-K students we provide a weekly hour-long classes for children and their caregivers to ease into early literacy foundation through play to help prepare children for schooling and reading. We focus on letter recognition, early phonemic awareness (hearing and playing with sounds), vocabulary development, print awareness (how books work), listening comprehension, expressive language, fine and gross motor coordination through movement and social-emotional connection through shared play and conversation. Additionally, we guide and support caregivers with at-home strategies and next steps for their child's literacy acquisition journey.
The Reading Bridge serves students, families, and visitors in Nassau County, Florida in the Amelia Island, Fernandina Beach, and Yulee areas and is currently expanding into Duval County, Clay County, St. Johns County, Florida. We focus on the following needs below.
At The Reading Bridge, we understand that the process of reading is a complex action that involves creating strong neural pathways within the brain. Many children need additional support with this process and succeed with one-to-one support. Your child is not alone. Developing proficient reading skills can be a challenging and difficult for new readers ages 3-11.
Our teaching strategies, combined with a science-backed curriculum, removes frustration for readers and fosters a sense of self-esteem through SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound) that celebrate student success every step of the way. This builds student confidence, and keeps your child engaged in the learning process rather than avoiding challenges and obstacles to academic growth. Additionally, our tutors are able to collaborate with your child's educators to ensure that we have the most up to date information about your child's reading and learning experience to best develop an IEP (individual Educational Plan) with holistic scope related to reading.
We understand the care and commitment it takes to support learning at home—and our tutors are here to help. The Reading Bridge supports students who learn from home, whether taught by parents and caregivers or through online schools. Since our Reading Bridge methodology and curriculums are skill-based and highly individualized, we build on what your child is currently learning while spiraling back to skills needing more attention or leaping forward to skills your child is ready to master. Working collaboratively with your child's educators, our 1:1 sessions provide in-person and online additional guidance, build student/tutor rapport and mentorship, and assist your child in becoming an empowered and confident reader.
Reading is a very individualized process. A child who has mastered specific reading skills is often frustrated, distracted, or bored in school when their educational needs are not met. At The Reading Bridge, our teachers and staff are able to create IEPs (Individual Educational Plans) for students who are ready to move forward with additional next-level reading skills and strategies. This ensures that your child does not stagnate and disengage from the reading and academic process and maintains a joy-filled approach to learning.

The Reading Bridge supports children building reading skills and confidence at their own pace. Our program is 12 weeks in length and meets four days a week for 30 minutes each session. Sessions are designed to meet each child where they are — without pressure or comparison. Progress looks different for every child, and growth happens best when confidence is protected. Our vetted and trained affiliate tutors have a passion for teaching reading and helping facilitate student confidence. Fun, patient, and skilled, our tutors work one-to-one with your child to target their individual needs and ensure reading growth while increasing student confidence. At The Reading Bridge, we work closely with our tutors tracking your student's growth. Behind every Reading Bridge tutor is a team of teachers researching and developing curriculum with your child's best interest at heart to meet your child's individual educational needs.
Our curriculum is always individualized for your child to provide specific lessons building upon what they already know, to focus on areas of growth, and to celebrate milestones of skill mastery. After an initial diagnostic screening session, our tutors and staff prepare an individualized educational plan to support your child's unique needs. Your child's educational plan strengthens skills through science-based strategies to strengthen new neural pathways for decoding letters, words, sounds, and meaning.
Our tutors provide every child a safe and supportive learning environment while mastering reading skills and building confidence in their reading abilities. At The Reading Bridge our mission is to empower children with the necessary reading skills to thrive in their academic lives, personal lives, and future professional lives. Additionally, we also focus on positive self-esteem, navigating obstacles, resilience, goal setting, and time management.
We teach reading and academic scaffolding skills for critical thinking. We do not teach religious, political, or philosophical ideologies beyond being a positive community member, neighbor, and citizen, which are foundational topics of many early basal readers, reading passages, and texts. Our longer texts are approved by the Florida Department of Education.
