SUMMER TUTORING PROGRAM
July 12 - August 5, 2021
Reading Bridge is offered at several different library locations around Sioux Falls and the neighboring areas. Students commit to attend eight (8), 1-hour sessions in a 4-week period with a qualified, trained tutor. It is a great opportunity to give your student extra support and motivation during the long summer months!
The instructional format is broken into 4 parts:
1. Reading TO students
2. Reading WITH students
3. Writing and making words (spelling)
4. Time to choose and check out 2 books to read at home
*Students must use their own library card to check out library books.

How Does It Work?
Parents and students report that they are overwhelmingly satisfied with the Reading Bridge program and recommend it to others. *Best results are achieved when students attend all 8 sessions.
Our program has continued to grow since our first summer in 2001. We could not offer our services in 2020, but we were able to tutor with over 800 students in 2019 and we are happy to be back again in 2021!
With help from a generous sponsor, this program continues to be offered free of charge to any child who would like to attend.
In a 5-year, quantitative research study, we have seen big differences in our Reading Bridge participants compared to non-participants.
Reading Bridge students, from spring to fall, show almost no loss in reading level scores (DRA testing). Public School students, from spring to fall, show almost a one-level drop in reading level scores.
Reading Bridge helps deter Summer Learning Loss, helping students from all walks of life stay prepared and motivated to learn when school begins in the fall.
His reading skills have improved over the summer and he is less frustrated.
